Coming up this month

GET IT SUNDAY! You may pick up your copy of the new proposed constitution in the narthex on Sunday. Beginning August 22 you will have an opportunity to talk with members of the Constitution Committee about it. Please pick yours up Sunday after the service.
NEW MEMBER SUNDAY IS AUGUST 22 AT THE 10 AM SERVICE. Have you been attending Bethany for a while? Would you like to join the fellowship in membership at Bethany? We will be receiving new members on Sunday, August 22 at the 10 AM service. There will be an orientation session for new members on Saturday, August 21 from 9-12. If you are interested in joining Bethany, please contact the church office (847-6690).
COUNCIL CALLS FOR SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING. At the July 8 meeting, the Church Council received a new proposed Constitution for Bethany and has called for a special congregational meeting Sunday, September 19, at 9:15 to vote on the new Constitution. All voting members are invited to attend the meeting. In preparation for that meeting, the Constitution Review Committee will be holding special informational meetings each Sunday during the coffee hour starting August 22 to explain to members that proposed changes. Copies of the new Constituiton and Bylaws will be available in the narthex beginning August 1.
OUTDOOR WORSHIP AT PLYMOUTH ON AUGUST 8. We're planning to have our outdoor worship service at Plymouth Cemetery on Sunday, August 8, at 8 AM. This cemetery has historic significance for our congregation because it is the site where our founding church was located. Please plan to bring a lawn chair for seating. If it rains, we'll move the service back to Bethany.
DO YOU LOVE A PARADE? On August 22, Mauston will be holding a parade. We will need a flat-bed vehicle to pull the float and people willing to help decorate the float, pass out flyers and candy. If you would like to be a part of this outreach ministry, please leave your name with Sara in the office or sign up on the poster in the narthex. --Parade Committee
SAVE THE DATE. On August 29, we will be having an old-fashioned hymn sing-along with a pie and ice cream social between services. Come to church with your favorite hymns in mind for us to sing. Between services we will have an old-fashioned pie and ice cream social with all the fixings. Enjoy an ice cream sundae and a slice of pie with friends and family. We are looking for volunteers to donate ice cream, toppings and pie. If you would be willing to donate to this social, please sign-up on the board in the narthex. We could also use help setting up and taking down for this social.
MONTHLY FELLOWSHIP POTLUCK! Don't forget that Sunday, August 15, is the third Sunday of the month. It is birthday and anniversary potluck for everyone-no matter how young or how old and you do not have to be celebrating a birthday or anniversary in the month of August to attend. Bring a dish to pass and plan to meet, greet, and eat. Tableware and beverages are provided.
JOIN BETHANY'S REALY FOR LIFE TEAM. The Relay for Life will be held July 30-31 at the Mauston High School Track. Bethany is again sponsoring a team to raise money for this very worthy cause. The sign up sheet is posted in the narthex. This year's theme is REALLY ROCKIN' RELAY which means that anyone who does not want to walk the track can pull up a rocking chair and rock the night away. We are looking for rocking chairs to be used for the event. Also this year, there are other opportunities to help our Bethany Team raise money by collecting aluminum cans. If you have aluminum cans or a rocking chair you would like to donate please contact Molly or Jeri Shultis and we will gladly pick them up. Congratulations to our own Kathy Green who is this year's Honorary Chairperson for the Relay for Life. This is an invitation for all our cancer survivors to come to the Relay to be honored and walk in the survivors lap around the track.
UPDATE ON SUGAR CREEK'S SEPTEMBER 11 AUCTION. Sugar Creek Bible Camp needs our help for its September 11 auction, which is the camp's main debt-reducing fundraiser. They are asking women's groups to provide a special quilt, and they're asking each congregation to come up with two antiques. You can bring/send the antiques now or bring them the week before the auction. They'd like to know what items are coming so they can advertise them in the paper. For more information regarding the auction check out their website at www.sugarcreekbiblecamp.org.
YOU COULD BE A TEACHER-REALLY YOU! Calling all Sunday school staff-Sunday, September 12, the first day of Sunday school, is fast approaching. This is a perfect way for you to bond with Bethany's youngest members. We teach using the rotation method. The same story is told for 4 weeks, in different ways. As a teacher you only need to teach 2 weeks out of the 4. You will teach the same lesson to 2 different classes. This way you are only committing yourself to 16 weeks of teaching and preparing only 8 lessons for the entire year.Come join in this wonderful way to strengthen your faith by helping our young people build their own. Contact Kathy Green now to get your choice of class!
BAPTISMAL TOWELS. If anyone is interested in taking over the sewing of our baptismal towels, please contact Sara in the church office. We extend a huge thank you to Betty Benton who sewed the towels for many years.
ATTENTION: YOUR OLD WORKING COMPUTER IS NEEDED FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL! Have you been looking for an opportunity to get rid of that computer you are not using anymore? We are going to be starting computer Sunday school classes for students in grades 5 & 6. We need at least 4, but 10 would be great. Please contact Kathy Green before dropping it off at church. Thank you!
ALTAR FLOWERS. Many of us have beautiful flowers in our yards and gardens. Is anyone willing to share those flowers on our altar? We need flowers each week. Sign up on the flower chart in the narthex, or call Sara in the church office at 847-6690 if you can help.
COFFEE HOUR SIGN-UP POSTED. The coffee hour sign-up sheet is posted by the serving window in the kitchen. We are looking for volunteers to team up and provide 6-8 dozen bars, cookies, muffins, or donuts and beverages between services. If you would like to help with this hospitality ministry, please pick a spot on the chart. Thank you.
WEAVING HOPE NEWSLETTER. Full-color newsletters from Dr. Mike Soderling in Guatemala are always on hand in the narthex. A sample copy is posted on the missions bulletin board with additional copies available in the brochure rack.
